About This Compound
About KPV
KPV is the last three amino acids of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone – lysine, proline and valine – taken on their own. The interesting part is what it leaves behind: the parent hormone acts on the melanocortin receptors and drives pigmentation, while the isolated tripeptide retains the anti-inflammatory arm of the molecule with little of the receptor-mediated pigmentation. That separation is why a three-residue fragment has a research literature of its own, concentrated on NF-κB signalling and mucosal inflammation models.

How It Works
How KPV Works
The pathways KPV acts on, and what each one does. Described from preclinical and receptor-pharmacology literature.
The Central Inflammatory Switch
NF-κB is the transcription factor that turns on much of the inflammatory gene programme. Published work reports that KPV interferes with its activation and nuclear translocation, which is the mechanism most consistently described across the literature on the fragment.
- Reported interference with NF-κB activation
- Downstream reduction in inflammatory gene transcription
- Measured in epithelial and immune cell models
Activity Without The Melanocortin Receptor
Some reported KPV activity does not require melanocortin receptor binding, which distinguishes the fragment from its parent hormone and from Melanotan II. That independence is what lets researchers separate anti-inflammatory signalling from pigmentation signalling.
- Activity described independently of MC receptor binding
- Contrasts with α-MSH and Melanotan II
- Separates the inflammatory arm from the pigment arm
Why A Tripeptide Gets Inside
KPV is small enough to be handled by the PepT1 di- and tripeptide transporter, which is expressed on intestinal epithelium and upregulated in inflamed tissue. That transport route is the reason so much of the published work sits in gut and mucosal models.
- A substrate for the PepT1 peptide transporter
- PepT1 is upregulated in inflamed intestinal epithelium
- Explains the concentration of research in gut models
Uses And Applications
What KPV Is Researched For
The main areas KPV is studied in, and the qualitative magnitudes reported alongside them.
Inflammatory Pathway Models
The core use: probing NF-κB activation and downstream inflammatory gene expression in cell culture.
Mucosal And Gut Research
Applied in intestinal epithelium and colitis models, where PepT1-mediated uptake makes the tripeptide unusually accessible to the tissue.
Peptide Transport Studies
Used as a small, well-characterised substrate for studying PepT1 and di/tripeptide transport generally.
Melanocortin Fragment Pharmacology
Studied alongside α-MSH and Melanotan II to establish which parts of the parent molecule carry which activity.

FAQ
Common Questions About KPV
What Is KPV?
The tripeptide lysine-proline-valine, which is the C-terminal fragment of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone. It is supplied here as a research compound.
How Is KPV Related To Melanotan II?
Both trace back to α-MSH. Melanotan II is a cyclic analog of the whole hormone and acts broadly on the melanocortin receptors; KPV is just the tail, and it is studied for the anti-inflammatory side rather than the pigmentation side.
What Is NF-κB?
A transcription factor that switches on a large part of the inflammatory gene programme. It is the pathway most often measured in KPV research.
Why Is KPV Studied So Often In Gut Models?
Because it is a substrate for PepT1, the intestinal di- and tripeptide transporter, which is upregulated in inflamed intestinal tissue. That gives the fragment a route into exactly the tissue the research is interested in.
Is KPV Approved For Human Use?
No. It is supplied strictly as a research chemical for in-vitro laboratory work.
How Should Research-Grade KPV Be Stored?
Store the lyophilized powder at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. As a short tripeptide it is more stable than the longer peptides in this catalogue, but it should still be kept cold and dry and refrigerated after reconstitution.
